89 4runner 22-RE knock sensor wire reinforcement?

hey noob here. Love this site. So, I've had the code 52 off and on for awhile now. Engine was rebuilt 30K ago. Timing is good and varified by smog center (5degrees). Code 52 comes up at 2000-2500 rpm. If I kill the engine, then restart it clears it, but comes back on. It came on intermittently before and seemed to not come on as much if I gave her more gas on accel. Just replaced the fuel filter (so move the starter, etc.) and knock sensor wire was jostled during that operation. Now code 52 comes on every time hit 2000 rpm, so seems like the wire is culprit. Ques is... The sensor itself seems less likely to be the prob, as many people have written on forums, but on my truck the wire is part of the wiring harness and not the 12$ part like on the 3.0s. Can I somehow rewrap or reinforce the existing wire to not pick up outside knock signals, etc? I saw a post saying wrap it in foam insulation, another post saying solder a grounding wire into the sensor wire which somehow cleans up the signal...
Any thoughts? More info?
