W56

No the R150 won't work.

will tell you more than you need to know as to what fits

W56 wont work unless you get the transfercase with it, you probably have a G-series which has the chain driven case. Look in your door jam, the code for which trans you have is in it. W56 is a way better option though. And like wabbit said the R150 won't work but a R151f would.

I don't know about the G58 transmission, but make sure it's the right one. I've recently run into that with my W56. Turns out there's a W56-A, B,C, and D and they're not all interchangeable. Not even the dealership could tell me which one i have in my 89 pickup. All I was told was that it was a 'W series' so don't trust everything they tell you either.

The G-series uses a gear drive case as well.

And the W and G series use the same bell housing bolt pattern to the engine. They will interchange. The variances are shifter locations and positioning and possibly overall length.

But the R150 from behind a V6 will not interchange. Different bolt pattern.

I have a 90 2wd Toyota p/u with 22re engine. It currently has a four-speed manual transmission. I want to upgrade to a five-speed tranny. I've spotted what I think is a five-speed in a 2wd 94 Toyota p/u in a salvage yard. How can I determine if it is a five-speed? Are there any badges to identify it?

Check the tag/label in the door jamb/striker area. If this is non-existent, try shifting thru the gears.

If it's still in the truck why not just look at the gear stick knob? Does it have a 5 on it?
