Got my 4Runnner V8 Dynoed today! =)

i was able to use my friend's all wheel drive dyno.. my truck is a 2003 V8 and is all stock.. it made 191 RWHP and 253 RWTQ .. in between pulls, i swapped out a K&N replacement filter.. surprisingly, it made no difference. i'll post the graph later.

here's some pics

Decent numbers but now try a pair of TRD stickers and do another pull.

Finally some real proof that K&N filters are garbage.

were u in 4wd or can u use only the rears on an awd?

curious how much driveline loss there is between 2wd and 4wd

Not really shocked about the K&N not making any power. I held one up to a light and you can see all kinds of tiny holes through it. http://www.gadgetonline.com/ is a really cool web site that talks about dyno results of a couple differant filters. I went with an Amsoil after reading about it and must say it seems like a much better filter.

it was 4WD.. the second pics shows all 4 rolling on the dyno.. i had about 18% loss in drivetrain

here's the dyno sheet.

Running your vehicle on the dyno is fun isn't it???

OK, so now you have a great base line dyno to judge the benifit of your mods from. You can't let that dyno chart go to waste, right?? So, what do you have planned??

If you want a very nice centrifugal supercharger kit let me know. On the Tundra we have pushed that to 300 RWHP.

Not so fast... I don't like K&N either but...

BlkSS1755;

If the truck is bone stock, then there is an inherent issue with the airbox being starved from the outside anyway. If you drop in a free-flow filter, but there's no way to get more air into the airbox (and thus no additional air through the filter) then you won't have any gains.

Did you try:
  • Run with the airbox top open and the stock filter?
  • Run with the airbox top open and the K&N filter?
  • Running without any filter?
It's important to reduce the number of variables as much as possible when looking for smapp HP gains. A free-flow filter will tend to get you 5-7hp, which is about the threshold *and* close to the margin of error for dynos. In order to really see that small of a HP gain, you have to be sure you're not causing issues elsewhere in the power path - in this case, an intake restriction in front of the filter.
