What size BL for 3.4L swap?

Well I took many pics of a truck in Colorado last summer at our little Yotatech get together, (sorry get remember his name). But he has a 3.4 swap with a SCer and I can't remember if he had a BL or not but from the looks of it I'd say not:

based on that pic, i would think a 3.4 swap with the 1st gen sc would need at least 1.5" bl, as the sc is slightly above the hood, and the hood with insulation is atleast 1.5" think, maybe almost 2". not saying which way to go, but cutting a hole in the hood and putting a scoop on would be much less work

IMO it would also look better w/o the BL.
