SR5 Guage swap - Oil pressure sender ???

Ok, before I get hammered on here, I searched and searched and searched. No one has asked my question and the dealership doesn't know the answer. Oher threads have posted part numbers but for earlier gen trucks and 4runners than mine.

I have a '91 4x4 Yota truck, 3vze and an idiot light for a guage. I purchased an SR5 guage set off ebay from a "89-95" Yota truck. The seller thinks it was from a '92. Now I know I need to switch out the Oil Pressure Sender but which one? The dealer ship as well as Pep Boys and AutoZone show 2 different ones for that unit.

Does anyone have a part number? The two options are:

1.) With Yazaki
2.) With NipponDenso

What is the difference and how do I know which one I need? Thanks a bunch a head of time.

***EDIT***
I may have found my own answer but can someone confirm this.....On the back of the guage set it should be labeled with either of the 2 options. Is this then the Oil Pressure Sender that I would need to buy?

Would it help if you had a VIN # from a 93 SR5 pickup? If so, I have one.

you need the sender or gauge assembly?
you have an sr5 model, then that means you have the sender assembly(off or on), the regular models have an actual gauge and the parts called an oil gage assembly(sensor)
So what do you need part numbers for? SR5 model or regular models?
I have threads up almost with the same problems as you, the dealor and everyone else is confusing me.
I bought a sensor from the dealor but it was the wrong model sensor, which was the SR5 model. I have a regular model with a gage. I had the part number for the SR5 model, not anymore, just the basic model, Its 83520-34010. this part is for a 94 4cyl DXL 2wd. maybe this will help you.

Here is the part number from Toyota

83520-34010 GAGE ASSY, OIL PR List $53.06

This is the item I picked up at my local dealer for my 94 with a 22re when I upgraded to the SR5 gauge cluster.

The easy way to tell is the size of the sending unit. The basic oil light sender is about the size and shape of a small sparkplug while the sending unit for the oil gauge is about 1-1/2" in diameter and look more like a can.

Oil Pressure Sender

Be sure you use the right one. The sender for the idiot light is really no more than a switch. If it see's pressure no light, No pressure then you get the light. Sends full voltage to the light. The fatter sender is a potentiometer sends variable voltage to the gauge depending on how much pressure it see's. Thats why the little sender burns the gauge up, it will send full voltage any time there is no pressure, which will happen as soon as you turn the key on.

Ok thanks everyone, but to clarify...

I currently have installed the idiot light guage system with correct oil sender(light).

I'm upgrading the guage cluster to the SR5 model which means I will need the correct oil sender unit (for a guage).

The dealership sells 2 different ones for the SR5 trucks!
1.) With Yazaki
2.) With NipponDenso

I just need to clarify which one of these senders I should buy or does it make a difference? the dealership says that the wrong one will send the wrong signal and therefore wont register correctly.

My new SR5 Guage cluster says "Yazaki" on the back of it so I'm assuming that the sender for "Yazaki" is what I need.

I would say that you have answered your own question. That IS a new issue with the swap though.

I've run into the same issue with 85-88 trucks. I haven't found a good answer. Can you post up the back of the cluster.

Aftermarket carries a single sender for both applications, but I can tell you that the "universal" sender ain't so universal.

No, we're not talking about the idiot light (switch) sender here.

I do not know what year truck you have but when I did the conversion on my 94 22re I went to the dealer and told them I had a 94 with a 22re and I needed a sending unit that would would with the gauge and I was never asked any other questions. They ordered me the part number I listed above.

I even used a gauge cluster from a V6 truck and was able to adjust tach so that it was correct for the 4 cyl.

If you know what model year your SR5 gauge cluster came from you could ask for the sending unit for that model year of the cluster.

I have an 88. There are 3 possible senders for the 4 cylinder in that particular year.
1) Oil pressure switch
2) Oil pressure sender A
3) Oil pressure sender B

Damn maybe this is why my oil pressure gauge dont work! Told the dealership what year i had and he just ordered the part no question asked. I am working on the led rig to check the sender like the fsm says. Gauge reads right on the meter 25 ohms. Hunh? Crap the no return on electrical parts bit will apply i'm sure, and that little pup was spensive. Sure scared me when i fired the new motor with my new gauges and got 0 pressure.

I bought a cluster on eBay which said Yazaki on the back. I looked up the sending unit on toyotapartsales.com and the choices were Yazaki or Nippondenso. I ordered the Yazaki and the gauge works fine. Odd that they would use two different ones but labeling the cluster sure helps. I have a 4 cylinder truck and cluster, for what it's worth. I hope this helps.
