Speed sensor compatability
Well the most recent thing to go on my truck is the #1 speed sensor. Did all the tests in the FSM and found it to be bad. So, before hitting the wreckers tomorrow I was wondering what will fit. My truck is a 1993 auto 3vze with 4.88's.
Obviously I need an electric sensor as opposed to mechanical. Do I need to find a truck with the same gear ratio as mine, or can I swap over the plastic gear from my old sensor? Are sensors the same for both manual and auto trannys? Does the sensor have to come from a V6 truck? Most available parts around here are from runners so tough to find the same gear ratio.
Any help is appreciated. Hoping to get this done tomorrow.
Thanks.

You can move the gear from the old to the new (the OEM part doesn't come with a gear). Take the old unit with you; there are a few versions, but they all look very different (check out the photos on RockAuto's site). I haven't been able to tell which version goes with which transfer case, but you won't have any trouble telling them apart by eye.
Good luck finding one, though, so let us know how you do.

Thanks for the info. If they all look different I guess I'll just start pulling till I find a match. Glad it only takes a minute to pull or this could get very frustrating. I'll let you know how it goes.
