soldering up a Supra AFM

Sorry I was away for a bit there.
Matt - I think I mentioned up above that for us to pick up the same Spectre filter and hardware we would have to order it from a place in Langley.

Really one of the only places to order it into Canada. The cone was about $35.00, total hardware for my wishlist was about $100 I believe. I haven't ordered yet, so perhaps we can speed up the order if we both order.
Did I see your add on Craigslist selling off a second '82? It'd be great if you could sell the second for $150 (as the add mentions) if that would cover the cost of both.

I don't think it's exact, but you should swap the internals.
I also have the rest of the stock intake if you want it, piping, air box and decently new filter.

I ended up finding an '82 Supra AFM for cheap, so I grabbed it. It on route from NY as we speak. Hopefully the dogsled ride to my village in Canada doesn't damage it.
Do a write up, I'd be really interested in how the re-wiring is done.

Will, do. I'll post any issues. I still have to bust out the ohm meter and verify the internals and then I'll probably keep the intake stuff where it is on the drivers side until I can add extentions like 4Crawler did to do the battery/intake swap. As far as the shipping goes, I was surprised at how well mine came boxed up from the junkyard. You'd have thought it was fine china!!!

Yeah that's my add, I found a second one for a little more than I paid for mine. I have to wait a while before I buy it though as it turns out, I footed the bill for a road trip and need to get paid back before I can buy anything. I'm not worried about someone else buying it as the add was incredibly obscure and took me hours to find.
What made up the $100 worth of hardware needed?

See if you can get lots of stuff that says TYPE-R scribbled all over it, then people will think you actually own a rare Toyota pickup type R while they point at your charcoal can and ask how many lbs of boost it provides

I just got back from ordering my Spectre parts. Filter was 36, duct tube was 31, and the infamous blue couplers were 10 each. Total with tax was just under $100, but I'll be charged freight. Installed it will look similar to the pics found here from Junker: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ke-kit-166450/
If you were interested you should give them a shout to try to save yourself the freight.
Also, just picked up my '82 from Abbotsford $75. I was going to just do the circuit board mod, but I couldn't find a donor.
Cheers!

Resonator
Hey, how about that pesky resonator? I've noticed some people buying a separate 2" filter just for the resonator. How are you guys planning on dealing with this?
I've also recently been warned against this mod. One guy explained that because the 22re is a closed PVC system, when you separate the resonator from the system you can set off alarm codes. Worst case scenario he mentioned was that your truck wouldn't start. Without an AFM I know it wouldn't start, but I doubt this outcome due to separating the resonator. Any legitimacy to the error code warning though?

No resonators on earlier trucks. Not sure when they were added. My resonator is open to the elements right now (it injects air downstream of the cylinders) its not ideal, but I think I will put one of those breathers on the resonator when I get this all sorted out.

I had a chance today and verified the internals of my Supra afm and everything is within spec. So, I went to Autozone and picked up flex intake tubing, couplers and a new cone filter. I got the blue stuff to go with the plug wires I have. For right now I'm just going to run the intake like it is factory over to the drivers side. If this all works out I'll be selling off my old K&N kit!

Matt, did you have success yet? I decided today was the day and went to the parts store and picked up what I needed to put an intake together. I actually bought more stuff than I needed, but it worked out. I also had to borrow parts of the K&N setup to remount everything. It's in though, only took a couple of hours. The truck runs and I will see tomorrow if I notice anything. So, it's official...I've been Supra'd!
