I found two relays at the junkyard today. Neither fixed my problem, so I am going to check the rear key switch next and see if I have conductivity thru the switch....

Checked the key switch in the tailgate. I have continuity thru the switch in both directions, I even grounded out the wires to the relay, nothing...now what do I need to check for? thinking of buying the Radio Shack relay and replacing the ones on one of the boards.... Could ALL three be bad???????

Thanks 4crawler, I have previously read and re-read your entire post, but I am still at a loss of why it won't work with the key. Other than a broken wire in the harness from the tailgate the relay. It feels like the relays are clicking when I hit the button up front, as the window does work properly that way. I am wondering, are any of the relays dedicated to the rear key switch?

Both switches operate the same relays for the most part. Since one switch works and the other does not, you should be able to do an A/B comparison of what is different in the switch signals at the relay connector. For example, compare pins 5 and 12 with each switch UP and 4 and 11 with both switches DOWN:



Might be a break in the wiring between the rear door and the relay box, for example.

Maybe 4Crawler can help on this one, if I ground my test light and touch I think its #2 of the power window regulator switch the window rolls down and #3 it goes back up. Or maybe it's #1 and #5. In any case neither of my two switches work or key switch but grounding my test light and touching the switch plug directly does, is my switch bad or do I have a bad ground? I haven't had time to pin point it yet but hope to soon for camping and such. I have an extra relay and both function the same. Sometimes when I push the switch down it clicks but doesn't function and other times nothing.

Sounds like a bad module to me. By relay, you mean the module, correct ? Possible to have 2 bad ones ? Mine didn't work with either switch or key either, ran off zip cord and a red top on the floorboard for 3 years, then replaced the module and all is fine now.

yeah I meant module. Maybe I should try and repair one with 4Crawlers write-up and see if that's it. I cleaned out one of my switches and it was corroded a little. I keep a ground wire handy to hook up to the switch wiring so at least the window functions, it's just not as convenient as I would like.

Hint: Almost all the switches work by grounding the appropriate pin of the relay module to turn a particular relay(s) on. So either the switch contact is dirty (not making good electrical contact) or the wiring between the switch and relay is faulty and not allowing enough current to flow to turn on the relay. Since the test light to ground works, that says the relays themselves are still alive and kicking.

And if you get clicking of the relays with the switches, this says that the relays are getting some current, maybe enough to make them actuate a bit (and click) but not pull in the contacts hard enough to make the window motor run (or the contacts in the relay and/or relay-motor wiring is faulty - see above):
