Yes, I REALLY think it will work, I know it sounds silly and simple but it has always been the standard of procedure for me. Remember, all the wonderful collective knowledge of this site revolves around personal experience and opinions AS WELL as professional training is some cases. Its so simple to try, as long as you have filled the radiator and the overflow AND have the thermostat in the housing in the CORRECT position, this will work. Of course this is also assuming your radiator is not plugged, the hoses are clear, and the water pump is fully functioning. Let us all know how this works.

Hey everybody,
Thank you all for the help. It really just turned out to be another bunk t-stat. I have 3 stats for this truck, the two that I purchased are bad and the one that appears to have come from the factory in the truck is in there working like a champ. I didn't purchase ˟˟˟˟ty ones either, they were the $27 Kuzeh brand stats.
I was all hung up on the bleeding thing as most of my mechanical experience comes from the boxer-engine world and they really are a b*tch to bleed out. I developed a method to backfill both the heater core and engine block in order to get the subaru's bled out.
The block test was a great suggestion and if symptoms return I will go ahead and do that, it could easily be exhaust gasses in the coolant passages.
We just had about 2.5 feet of snow in the past few days and the truck is a champ in the snow. I towed out a BMW and a Tercel the first night at work. With all this wintery weather it's been mighty cold so I'm glad I didn't just drill mad holes in the stat or do away with it all together.
