I have a 1986 one ton hi lux pickup. They look the same as a half ton but are built much heavier duty. the 22RE has factory enlarged valves and different cam lobes 130hp 1ton. front suspension has larger brake disk/ ball joints/ upper and lower A arms and huge torsion bar. Rear heavier leaf spring's and 8 inch rear end with reinforced axle tube's. The commercial trucks had a dually rear end rtec auto or 4 speed mt/ non-commercial trucks a standered axle configuration with 5 speed mt or rtec auto trans. btw a few one tons where just 22R at 96hp. Stock 22RE truck/celica/4runner is 116hp. I hope this clears up a bunch of misinformation.
