oil cooler removed? 3vze

i just was wondering if you can completley remove the oil cooler from the engine? maybe replace with an oil filter? i think the one that is on the engine i just tore down is bad. i found coolant in the oil, i couldnt find any signs of a blown head gasket or any crack anywhere.has anyone else had or herd of one going bad?

i thought the radiators extra cooling port was for the tranny fluid (automatics).

and, oil coolers are great, i would love to have one.

the cooler on the side of the block not the radiator.

What ever came of this, I need to replace my oil cooler gaskets and have been thinking of changing the setup or doing someething different like this.

So I removed the oil cooler and the upper pipe/tube that connects with the smaller u-shaped rubber hose to the engine was full of orange/brown sludge and so is the pipe coming from the engine. I was able to clean out the oil cooler with brake cleaner and compressed air, but what is the best way to clean/clear out the pipe/tube coming from the engine? Pour distilled water down the radiator and hopefully it cleans it out? Any help is appreciated.
