Oil blowing out from the top of valve cover 22re
Hey All. I put a new engine in my '94 pick-up 22 re a year and a half ago (Out of warrentee) and all went well until driving down the interstate I lost a massive amount of power. I did have to keep using it a bit while I searched for the problem but not a lot.
The engine would backfire through the air cleaner and rattle a good bit when under load (hills). A good bit of carbon on plugs for cylinders 3 and 4.
I spoke with a mechanic about it and he suggested that the valve guides for cylinders 3 and 4 have dropped a bit causing the issue. Correct? Makes sense to me.
Now the new problem is oil is getting blown out through the TOP of the valve cover soaking the engine compartment. PVC valve is operating fine.
I guess I need a new cylinder head but does this new issue with the oil a different problem or is it related?

I'm not comfortable with that diagnosis(if guessing can be considered a diagnosis) We rarely had valve guide issues in ANY Toyota model bitd. Granted, a rebuilder has touched your engine and that changes things a bit. But still....
I'd confirm timing, check ignition components. Look for vacuum leaks.
You need to have a leak down test and compression test done before anything of consequence gets taken off.
