I appreciate all the input.....really. As time passes and things are learned (hopefully ) this kind of info is making more sense.
My code 5 turned out to be a TPS eventually going south. Dern thing is tough. Denso.... So, CEL is now gone for good, but my Bosch O2 sensor is still goin' strong. I'm going to change it out, though, on the lifetime warranty deal. It's been operating this long on a rich/lean condition I'm guessing it's probably not as sensitive as could be. Brand new TPS + brand new O2 = winning combination. And the replacement's free!
I have to respond....
The 3.0 running lean? Whether or not that's even true, I don't believe that's the reason for the HG failure. I believe it's the restrictive exhaust and head design COMBINED with other operational conditions. Namely the maintanence they are given.

Another update.....
Guess what I learned.....the real reason for Bosch sensors not working....on the 22re's, anyway. I mean, the sensor itself functions fine, BUT!!!!! The flange screws on to the sensor probe leaving about 3/8" -1/2" thread that's SUPPOSED to just fit down in the hole of the manifold. Well....IT DOESN'T!! In tracing down a vacuum leak, I pulled the Bosch sensor out because I heard a little noise coming from that area. I noticed what I hadn't noticed before. The flange was bent over/convexed because the sensor wasn't sitting flush all the way in the hole and therefore not compressing the gasket completely around the probe in the middle.
So, there! No Bosch for you! And, they're ALL like that. I checked at O'Reilly.
I'm getting a Denso. Thanks all.
