IIRC another thing that can cause the rings to not seat properly is replacing the rings without honing the cylinders. The cylinders can be too smooth to seat the rings.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I haven't gotten around to checking the compression yet, been too damn busy, but I will get to it.

Anyway, Red Chili you may have been right, it seems like the consumption has gone down a bit. I filled it up with Dino when I first realized it was low, and it has gone through a 1/2 quart in the last 300 miles, and 60 miles of that was trailering a boat and trailer that weighs about 5,000lbs combined.

It went through 3.5qts in around 700 miles, and now has only gone through a 1/2qt in 300, so maybe the rings are seating. I have also gotten up to about 40mph and just let off the gas and let it decelerate to about 10mph or so a couple of times, to pull a strong vaccuum and try and seat the rings

I know it's not the rear main, as I don't have any wetness underneath and no drips. Leaking 3.5qts out of the rear main, would have made a mess of everything, I've been through that before.

I did notice some small puffs of blue smoke from the exhaust when I was pulling the trailer out of the water up the boat ramp last week, but the oil was hot after the 30 mile drive pulling the boat and I haven't seen it since, even when punching it off the line and trying to make it happen.

I really hope it's just the rings seating, we'll see. I am gonna do an oil change with a good Wix filter and good oil and check compression and I'll get back to you guys.

Right now it's got a crappy Fram on it, and 7-11 oil in it.

Thanks again.

Check the PCV valve and breather lines, too.
