awesome awesome awesome. I started this last night and got completely stumped, though I might have had a handful of beers before I decided I wanted to give this a try...

I need to do this on mine. My shifter has dropped from "D" to "2" a time or two recently.
Ill have to run down to the stealership and see if they have any bushings in stock.

alright so I actually completed this and WOW. I read everyone saying it was like a new car but holy crap its good. It me about an hour and a half since of course I rocketed the cotter pin out into a blackhole somewhere. All in all it was very simple and the improvement is well worth it. Thanks for posting this.

So i replaced the auto shifter bushings 2 (90385-11003) and shifter linkage grommets 2 (90480-17177) and it feels like i'm driving a different car now, thanks guys.

Awesome info!!!
Just completed this on my 89 4x4 truck. Shifter feels like new, really tight.
Toughest part was reinserting the pin into the linkage, hoping not to drop it....
With the new bushings installed, there was much less give to move linkage like when I initially removed it.
Thrilled to get this finally done and many big mahalos for all the contributions that made this possible!

Hey everyone, just did this myself and also lost the pin in the blackhole down there. Luckily I had a bolt that fit perfectly. My issue is that I didn't check to make sure all was well underneath as I apparently split the wiring harnesses and now I have to take it all apart again to fix it properly. It really suck but at least now I know what I am doing. Big props to the OP and everyone who gave hints.

parts Question
So we followed your directions - they were excellent by the way! Anyone have any idea where to to get the shift indicator bezel pieces? Want to replace them while we have everything a part. Our truck is a 1992 4WD
Also the overdrive button is malfunctioning won't stay pushed in... Can just that piece be replaced?
Thanks in advance

What an absolute nightmare this was! I have a few choice words for whoever decided to make it so complicated to do something so simple lol. Of course, I lost the pin that connects to the transmission rod. I think that the part number is: 90240-08054. Can anyone confirm?
