I have an 89 4runner that I have kept stock, but I would like to lift it. The rear springs are sagging, so I would like to get new springs. That being the case, what is the board's opinion on this kit for this price? Its basically springs, torsion bars and shocks for $350. Here's the link:

The exchange and return policy is what makes me weary. Ebay is a haven for bait and switch tactics, and this "company" doesn't have 100% positive feedback. I suggest that you go with Marlin Crawler or Trail Gear leaves and SAW torsion bars. Might be more expensive, but it's a proven product from a reputable company.

MC and TG both require new spring mounts. As much as I dis-like Downey, pick up their rear springs. If you wheel every weekend like I do, Downey's will sag in 2yrs, otherwise they should be fine. With the top on, 4runner's don't get much lift from the 2" Downey springs so you may consider the 3" and with either a longer shackle. Just ball joint spacer the front, with low profile upper a-arm stops and then consider if you want new t-bars. I second the SAW, they are cheap and work well if you keep the pre-load off so you can get some flex.

Now on my Dad's '87 4runner we put a set of Rancho add-a-leafs in the rear and it got the springs up really well, but the stock springs weren't sagging. You may also look into this if you want somthing cheap--and Rancho add-a-leafs hold up really well to wheeling. We also added SAW t-bars and low profile stops to level the front. It's a pretty sweet setup, right now it has 305/70-16's or 33x12.50 equiv. on it.

Don't, the Iron Man t-bars are 26mm if I'm not mistaken -- WAY TO F'n stiff!

Ahhhh. Thanks for the quick replies. I was getting anxious to buy the kit for the price, but I think I should stick with what people have proven to work. The truck is just a "fun" truck now, so I can experiment with it and not be stuck without a car if my project doesn't work out. Thanks again for all of the input!

If you want rear springs get the OME ones. They are not that expensive, give about 1.5" of lift and the heavy duty ones are not supposed to ever sag... The website that I ordered mine from was www.trdparts4u.com.

The difference I see is that Downey will sag and the OME ones will not. I'm very happy with the OME. A bit stiff but they handle well offroad!
