I'm going to try the ISR mod when the weather is a little nicer, but this 3.0/Auto is a slug. That's coming from a guy who drives up Mt. Hood all the time. Seems like you can throw a lot of money into it without that much of an increase in power or fuel mileage.
If you look out the driver's side window instead of the windshield, it seems like you are going faster.

Thanks Gorge...lol..it works..it does seem like I'm going faster! Now, if I could just get everyone else to slow down, I would feel even better!
I would love to do the 3.4 swap, but I just bought this rig and dont have alot of spare cash. I only got $3,000 in it and would be willing to maybe spend to where its at about high book price. So all in all I would probably be willing to spend about another 1200 on mechanical mods. Now, I do like the idea of replacing the cams. and in reality that would maybe be the best bang for the buck. I'm thinkn cams w/ a bit more lift and duration(not too much). ok now I'm thinkn might as well remove the heads and re ring it if I'm gonna go rougher on the cam.
oh no... now see there I go. I am already well over 1200 here.
Whats a good used 3.4 go for?....lol....is there an ECU change involved? is the swap pretty much plug and play or is there a WHOLE nother harness story involved here?
Forgive me guys. I've spent most of my past w/ gm small blocks and straight sixes. Then EVERYTHING became computerized. I cant afford the old tank anymore(73 K25 suburban, 33 12.50, air front posi rear,TH400,NP205,MSD,weind,holly 850dbl, isky,. cracked block.) I've gotten that 8700lb truck in alot of predicaments! and gone through alot of parts and money( gears, tires, trannies, front diff's(2 ) , busted shackles or leafs like 6 times..just too plain HEAVY and long. Now my runner....FUN. Already been a few places I couldnt even think of taking the suburban for fear of not being able to turn around or back out. hell the toy just goes through over or around...I'm lovin it....BUT....MORE POWER?...lol...Ok there I am rambling.
I guess a 3.4 swap is sounding more and more practical huh.

Does anyone know a ball park estimate how much the ISR mod increases horse power?
(Also, has anyone thought of putting on a different air filter with the ISR mod that isn't in the stock air box. Like a big air filter outside of an air box. Sorry I don't know really what else they're called other than air filter.)
About how much does it cost?
Thanks

hey TUBBYFATTY, on that link you sent me I see the forward hose(7/16) off the intake to the mod, but what about the 3/4 next to it?...Does that stay attached to the side box?

It's not really a fair comparison because of the weight difference, but there isn't an impossible gap to fill between a 3.0 and a 3.4. I would imagine it would be pretty equal if they were both trucks, assuming the 3.0 is tuned fairly well. The motor itself is basically stock(from what I see listed) so I don't see it putting out an incredible amount of power?
