My 82 sr5 had 385,000 on it when I sold it..Original engine 3rd 5sp tranny.
My 89 4runner 22RE had around 400,000 on it when sold original engine.
Current 92 4runner 22RE has 285,000

I have seen plenty of 1st gen Runers that weren't wrecked..
Just blown engines or a burned out dash board
Other than that the good ones, if i had the money , just throw on a set of tires and a new engine and it would have been set..
A shame to see them rotting away in those junk yards...
But again like ai siad new motor and tries and it would be off!
I plan on keeping Tess as long as humanly possible!

Well, as a testimet to reliability my 3.0 3VZ-FE went 150k and was fine, although it burned about 1/2 a qt of oil every 3k. Even with a trans shifting problem it still kept on going for 35k. I woulda never sold it had it not been for that problem as its a very torquey engine!

My T100 has 188k on everything but the engien which was replaced due to the 3.4L HG recall.

If you live in vermont and drive it in the winter you won't get much over 20 years or 200k. Damn road salt!!

I don't know about you but I kinda run into a wall at about 12hrs or so. I think the longest I've gone is 14.


I have a couple of customers with over 300k, I think one of them is just over 350k

This Sunday, was a blurb in our ATL paper, a dude in Cumming GA has a 96 VW Golf diesel with over a million miles. He said it was still on the original clutch, and the drivetrain had never had any major maintenance done.

My 89 had 300K on the original 3.slow that had almost no maintainence done to it, original tranny, everything but the clutch. I tuned it up, put another 30k On it, and sold it for 1200 to pay for the 3.4, and the old 3.slow is still in a 4 runner and still going almost a year after I sold it.

Best little trucks on the planet.

I will soon pass 300,000 (currently 293,000) on my 1990 4runner 3.slow. Just replaced the head gasket a couple of weeks ago. , pistons were just as snug as could be. actually every thing was surprisingly tight and fit. Should be able to easily get another 100,000 out of the engine. Will soon need the clutch replaced though.

I had a 1979 Toyota 4x4 PU that had over 420,000 when my wife gave it away (long sad story). The 20R engine still ran like a sewing machine, the body was in decent shape, and the interior was in good shape, but the suspension, steering linkage and everything else was completely shot. Man I wish I still had that truck. I would be willing to a complete restore on it.

For me it was my old BMW when I bought it off the original owner it had 134k when I sold it it was still pulling just as hard at 280k.

I'm on my 3rd Toyota truck now. My first, an 89 2wd I gave to my sister when I got my 88 4wd. She drove it for 8 years until our ice storm last month when she hit ice and then the concrete median on the freeway. She's ok but not the truck...poor thing. Engine still runs great at over 300K but the bed, axle, and right side of the truck took a licking. She's now driving my 88 until we can find a body swap for hers. I Love my 88 with 267K with only the clutch replaced once. Now I have my new baby. 91 4Runner with 117K. She's still a baby!

I have a 90 model olds in my yard right now with 350 grand on it and the motor has never had a valve cover off of it.. It's all in how you drive them and service. It came from my mother in law and she had it serviced by the book all the way.. Ive had it for the 5 years , doesen't use a drop of oil

i bought my 83 for a 12 pack of beer. got it running in less than an hour with no new parts. it came with 250k on the odometer and a second odometer in a bag on the floor reading 160k. drove for 7 months without putting another penny into her. love my ugly girl, and never plan to let her go.
