failed 25mph
after puting brand new 50state cat, vafm, o2 sen, tps with adjustment, fixed egr,
checked pair valve system, ect cold start temp sens, spark plugs are white but not too white. set timming from 12 btdc to 7btdc
third test
15 mph
(%co2 15)
(%o2 .0)
(HC {max 62} meas 127)
(co {max .45} meas .34)
(NO {max 356}meas 1)
25 mph
passed 25mph
im thinking i need to lean out the vafm
but how much?
mabe 2 clicks?
or should i have shop adjust?
seems to run great after 3000 rpm
seems kinda slow b4 3g but so does every 3slow

If you have a new AFM on it, i wouldn`t try adjusting it. How old is the 02 sensor ?, I would recomend replacing it if its real old and has a lot of miles on it. Buy a Denso 02 sensor, Bosch 02 sensors don`t work well in toyota engines. You can get an 02 sensor

4got it also has good working o2 sensor off my other 93 4runner that i swapped to try and problem solve. the vafm on there was opened by me awhile ago and marked and returned back to factory spot. im probably going to try 2 clicks and see how it runs

this is from http://www.smogtips.com/failed-high-hydrocarbons-HC.cfm and it does not make sense because hc is "raw fuel"
Lean Fuel Mixture - Any condition which will cause unmetered air to enter the intake manifold, and ultimately the combustion chambers, will cause high hydrocarbons (HC). This condition is called a lean miss-fire. Such faults as vacuum leaks and gasket leaks will cause lean fuel/air mixtures. Broken, disconnected or misrouted vacuum hoses will do the same. It is also important to note that many engine components rely on engine vacuum for proper operation. If any of these components are defective, externally or internally, they may cause large vacuum leaks as well. A good example of such a component is your vehicle's power brake booster.

the newer o2 sensor is out of my other 3vze. so its good.
going to put 1g e85 with 4g of gas. also i leaned out the vafm 2 clicks....... smoging today.
i kinda want to run the same setup with just gas/e85 mix to see if it passes because i have a camaro that would love a cam

Great to hear you passed. I live in california too, (have 6 cars/ trucks) and they all come due( smog) within a month of each other. What a pain in the butt.
One of biggest things you can due to pass( other than keeping your truck/car tuned-up) is make sure the engine/ cat is up to operating temp before your test. I make an appointment, and time it so I just get in after a 30 min. highway drive.

yeah you want the cats nice and hot, but hi nox reading usually come from something running too hot in the combustion chamber. otherwise run that bish nice and hard before the test and call it a day
