General Causes of Backfiring?
The runner's done it since I've had it, and it's finally started to bother me. Doesn't feel like anything's "wrong", but it's just annoying. Whenever I let off the gas when it's reved up (in or out of gear), it'll backfire. Especially annoying when I'm revin up next to a ricer to laugh at their tin can sound, and she backfires. Lol...
ANYHOO. What are some general causes of backfiring?

Hmm... I aint got a leak detector. Think the starting fluid trick will work?
My timing is the retarded all the way at the dist (only have done the rev it and adjust dist method. no timing light... so it's probably off a little).
Beans?

The dash pot is supposed to keep the throttle from shutting too fast and backfiring. It's the little vacuum thing that you can see contact the bottom of the throttle and has a vacuum line and filter hanging off of it. Make sure that's in adjustment and clean for a start (I think most any service manual has the procedure and you can probably find it online I just can't seem to find it right now). If it was timing it probably wouldn't be running fine otherwise.
Oh, and to check for vacuum leaks carb cleaner works well. Spray it on anywhere you think it may be leaking while the engine is running and listen for the idle to raise up. If it does you probably have a leak there.

True, but they stop laughin real quick when you point the wheels towards them and chirp the tires. They know what 4X4 means, and judging from the dents on my runner I aint afraid of running things over!
Thanks for the ideas. Imma go check it out. Let yall know if the dashpot and carb cleaner / mapp gas ideas point towards anything...

First dirtbike was a kawasaki, and the color always appealed to me. Plus, it aint somethin ya see every day.
And the dashpot is fine, but couldn't find no starter fluid, carb cleaner, and I used the last of my mapp gas trying to heat up a coil lol... Aw hell I dunno.
