When you say 30mpg, are you using US gallons, or imperial gallons?

1 us gallon = 3.78 litres
1 imperial gallon = 4.54 litres

My 99' 4runner, v6, auto, best mileage ever, on a completely flat highway, was 9.5 L/100km or 24.7 mpg. Most road trips i can get 10.7 L/100km or 22mpg... do not see you getting ANY better than that... I've tried everything....

30 miles per imperial gallon would convert to 25 miles per U.S. gallon assuming there actually was a mixup with units.

Regarding weight, I call it "much ado about nothing." It generally makes a negligible difference in highway economy. It has the largest influence when a vehicle is frequently changing speed(which is related to why hybrids get better city economy than highway). At constant velocity, most of the engine output is being used to overcome wind drag.

So 800-1000 pounds would affect city mpg pretty noticeably. Would atleast make it go down 1 mpg.

It would be hard to quantify without actual long-term testing and would take a lot of number crunching to make a prediction.

Well I know my mpg drops when I have my 400 pound quad in the back of my tacoma. Its consistantly about 1 mpg less on long road trips with it back there. But either way adding 1000 pounds isnt going to make it get better mpg

Edit: But it does have a tool box on the racks that sticks up past the cab of the truck, catches some wind.

Think the most unbelievable part is that he's claiming better mpg in his truck then the car actually got with that motor. No need to get picky with numbers to throw a red flag on that one. Especially with no reseon behind it, besides "it just does"??

Hows a rainbow made, hows the posi-trac on the rear end of plymouth work,,,, It just does.

I love this thread. I also have a hard time believing the same engine in a heavier vehicle could get better gas mileage but that's just me. When I put weight in my 4Runner (even passengers) I get lower gas mileage. I don't have a 7mgte though so I can't comment on that specific engine. I can say however, that every vehicle I've ever owned lost a few mpg with significant weight in the vehicle. This includes chevy's, subaru's, a ford, multiple toyota 4x4's ranging from 1980-1998, a camry, a VW GTI, a CJ7 and more. That's my personal experience.

If a 7mgte can actually get that kind of mileage in a 4Runner I'll be looking for one soon! Im still IFS and not lifted so it may net me 35 mpg with a 5speed swap.

Yea, this thread is kinda like watching " finding big foot show " . Is it possible ? Well let's just say I never saw 25 mpg in a lifted Toyota 4x4 but I've heard stories .......

I hope he does get that .

haha, this is getting rediculous. Loving the Jerry chant. Glad we could be a good source of entertainment. To let the cat out of the bag, Greg from toronto nailed it. I was using imperial gallons for my calcs...not american gallons. Its my own boycott of the american system to not use it if I can help it. I did not lie, I just didn't tell the whole truth...and he never asked...

I over looked it when I first posted, just as "thatguy" (TG)did. Realizing I forgot to clarify between american/imperial, I came back with the thought of correcting myself, and read TG's post. His confidence amazed me. Although his rudeness insulted and annoyed me. I will not be called a liar, and was fully willing to prove I'm not. So I decided to not tell my dirty little secret and see how far he would go with his insults and punishing words trying to make me admit to being wrong. Turns out he will go quite far. Every time I thought about spilling the beans he would say something that would put me over the edge and keep going such as "the honest people of yotatech" and the post about no-one finding out about me being called out. I'm too stubborn for that. This is where the fun begins.

I didn't want to insult him too much and have it get out of control, nor did I want his temper to die down and lose all interest. I had to give simple responses with only a small relevance or possible effect of my actual mpg. Enough to piss him off a bit, but no insult. Then decided to make a small remark at his brain stregnth (ie spelling) and his truck (the race he was challenged to) Small but enough to keep the flame up. Oh how I laughed reading TG's posts. One of my favorites was "You dont know why your getting great mpg. DO YOU?" I damn near fell out of my chair laughing at that one. I knew exactly why!!!

Then Toy jumped in (with some very good reasoning I might add). Toy, sat on the fence wonderfully (thank you). Giving just enough doubt to fuel TG but just enough support of me to keep him on his toes. Perfect for my plan, and couldn't have scripted it better! I actually did take a a video of me filling up, driving, filling up again...it cost me $8.50! I was hoping no-one else would chime in on the subject and I could get TG to waste an hour of his life watching a video of someone else driving and talking. But alas, then the rest of you jumped on board too and thats just too many people to fool for my own humour. I was planning to send Toy a pm tonight and tell him the story, hoping he would jump in for the fun.

That guy, I give you mega props for your perseverance and determination in proving me wrong. Hopefully you take this all in good nature and didn't lose much sleep over it. I beleeve I owe you a beer...355ml in a can right? Thats about a quart right :p

I actually did get my claimed fuel economy on my drive last night (beautiful night for a drive I might add, thanks for that!) It works out to between 20-21 mpg using american gallons. About 11L/100km for the rest of the world. If you want, I can send you the video...but trust me...its boring

Hey we posted same time friend. Although your thinking a little highly of your self mentally. Im glad im not crazy and you didnt lie aboot your mpg. But it wanst anything you said towards me. It was merly that you were lying about your mpg. And now that you admitted knowing this whole time about the mix up in canadian gallons, and still argued your results, that does in fact make you a liar. Sooo, I guess i still win this one

oh, we're going to start this again? haha, I didn't lie about it! I got 24.something MPG! Imperial gallons, but gallons none-the-less! There was no clarification of which I was allowed to use. I take off my hat to you.

That makes sense! Still better than the MPG on my 3.0. This was a great debate. Cheers pals!

And from now on I'm buying Canadian gas!

Gees you newbys are alot of work to put in there place.

Like I siad back to the OP

So I think the gear ratio he has is best (4.88 that is), other thoughts?

P.S. this has been a long thread already, if you dont agree with keeping 4.88's on a 4runner with 35's 4.88's, a 4.3, and 4L60E trans then please provide a decent reseon why. Thanx.
