the lucas stabilizer mixes just fine with any motor oil, love it to death. makes my taco and runner happy! I don't remember the ratios without looking at my log but I know the front is either 75% or more lucas, tranny and t-case is 50% and rear diff is close to 50% lucas. no leaks, smooth as ever.

Transmission warms up fairly fast, by 4-5 miles in the dead of winter, I am very easily shifting between gears, even going into 1st.

did I mention I love lucas oil?? hahaha!

don't always like the price but you get what you pay for (if you're lucky). last one I just bought was a gallon for $32, ouch

Sooo seems like Lucas is favored among some feared by others lol . I may think about trying some in the front diff/transfer I'm prolly gonna pick up a gallon of stalube when I get the chance n go that way for the trans n possibly tcase just in case the seals leak and it mixes.

What's a favorite brand for gl5 for diffs? Also I could get some valvoline diff oil at my uncles industrial store /workplace lol, but it has limited slip additive would that be bad for open diffs?

should be fine I think. there is more latitude here than most think, as long as the rating is correct/close, the diffs will do just fine regardless of brand. I'm just a bit of an 'oil elitist'. most fluids are similar in price, why not go with the best thing out there is my philosophy.

this is one of those topics that opens up all kinds of debates on the 'best' oil. everyone has their opinion, just sharing my own FWIW.

I think Valvoline 85w-90 and Mobile 75w-90 is what I used in my rigs in addition to Lucas.

new 'inferior' oil would be better than old 'better' oil for example.

glad I saw this thread, time for me to check my fluids on both rigs, been almost a year... practice what you preach....

I want to put synthetic in but the price is horrendous and harder to find the right weight

I just went from GL4/GL5 to Red LINE MT90 and I will not use anything else from now on.

My OLL pos 5 speed shifts like new. Well almost new

I use Redline MT90 in my transmission and Walmart 80W90 GL5 in my front and rear diffs and change it once a year. I just put Walmart 75W90 GL 5 Syn blend in my transfer case as well.

I don't see any logical reason to run 50% Lucas in anything unless you were trying to cover up a rod knock or something similar I guess.

Just use the appropriate weight gear oil and change it when the manual suggests and you'll be fine.

I could add that putting a quart of 75 in with the 85 will lower the viscosity a tad bit.
We are talking oil, and oils will mix.
