it's funny the remco site mentions that an 86-94 4WD manual trans Pickup is towable as is and does not mention the need for the disco.

But and 86-90 auto 4wd needs to be trailered.

And an auto 2wd can use a disco.

Not sure what to think of that.

I know on old jeeps you're not supposed to flat tow because the rear axle bushings get eaten up.
I suppose if you went full floater rear you could flat tow.

Tow with the transmission in 4th gear, the t-case in neutral, and leave the engine running.

It was meant as a joke, but it would keep oil pumps going. I wouldnt do it, it defeats the whole purpose of towing unless its broken in which case who gives a crap about the god
d-- thing.

Mud hippy, I did some looking, actually oottells, (if thats even a word) of looking, Not only is it suspiciously hard to find good info on this from anything based off toyotas recommendations, but I definetly have not found anything that disagrees with what you have said. If I ever tow my yota very far im definitely going to pull the DL.

Take a look at the t/c input shaft to the left in my avatar. <---
That is what happen when I towed my truck on a dolley and was too lazy to pull the rear d/s on the way after a day of rain wheeling. My crawl box went in low range some how. More pics can be.seen in my build thread some where around aug/sept 2009....Destroying my front crawl box and transmission. $500 reminder, this knowing the t/c bearing don't get lubed correctly.

For the real skinny pm bigmike. Beside risking fubarring your junk the reasons have been explained in other posts...
