the mileage is at 106 now,,, the problem is I was out in Colorado all summer last summer and did some wheelin out there and have been wheeling back in VA and the first summer I had it when I lived in the NF the whole summer I had a jumping phase with it down the FS road I lived on. Retarded yes I know but being that I can't take it back, I can only say that those things jump awesome. But anyways thatnks for the input, I am heading back down to VA in a week and have some of the parts on there way down there and will continue my yota learning process.

After a quick spin around some parts sites I get:
PS pump $90-180 (plus core) or PS pump rebuild kit $25 (writeup) http://members.cox.net/stacewilliams/ps-pump.htm
PS gearbox $250-400 (plus core)
Plugs $2-10 ea
Wires $25-$75 (have heard from several sources that OEM Toyota wires are worth the $75)
That should get you started. Also in (defense?) of the steering quote dealership genuine Toyota parts appear to be about $2800 (if there is any defending that) and if I'm reading it right. Anyway...
Oh yeah, if you don't already know about this link it has been invaluable to me.

Like someone said, verify where the leak is actually coming from....with that low of a mileage, it would seem more likely to find a loose hose clamp or something.
Toyota power steering pumps do not get power steering fluid....otherwise, they seem to develop leaks. They get ATF...says it right on the cap.
Get genuine Toyota belts....you said you were having the dealer do that...good for you. Seems like so many after-market belts squeak and squeal.....They might say Gates or Goodyear on them but they still just seem so sub-par compared to OEM.
Genuine Toyota spark plugs and wires are the best...there is just no comparison when you visually see an OEM set and a so-called Hi-performance after-market "one size fits 10" set. OEM will last 10 or 20 years.....after-market seems to sputter and act up first time in a heavy rain.
Stay away from Splitfires and Bosch and AC Delco and others. NGK and ND rule.
This is the place I get my parts at 30% savings compared to the dealer(that equals wholesale pricing)

I would like to see the breakdown of the PS parts. You have to disassemble a few things to get to the gearbox.
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...ng/13gearh.pdf
I think the timing belt price is VERY reasonable IF it includes a water pump. The going rate I've seen is between $500 and $700.

I think the battery price is reasonable if it's an OEM quality battery. I would just go to Sears though - they'll install it for free.
Don't know what the thermal resistor is.
The plugs/wires quote is the only one that seems really out of the ballpark to me... another recommendation to stick with NGK or Denso ignition components for our trucks

when my PS gear box sprung a leak i got a 3200 dollar( yes 3 thousand 2 hundred) price tag from my local stealership when all the local parts houses wanted between 300 and 375 with lifetime warranty. you cant justify that price for any reason to me

was that for the box itself or to install a new one?
300-375 for a new one from the parts store?
I understand the bonus of having the lifetime warranty (I just got a new ps pump at autozone a few months ago), but if I had the money, I would rather pay for a new one that is going to last another 130k miles (probably longer as I wont put PS fluid in there like the previous owner)
and then I won't have to deal with it again, where as the rebuild I just put in is starting to make noise now only a few months later, and a few people on here have gone through 3-4 of them before they get one that isn't crap, to me it's almost worth the extra money (and I am sure that the toyota parts have some sort of a warranty) so I won't have to spend another weekend working on my truck if I don't want to

OK. So if I'm reading this right, and someone correct me if I'm not, the link above has an illustration in which you would have to actually purchase both #8 and #14 to get a complete steering box from Toyota. So that is:
#8 steering gear $2080.61
#14 control valve $798.84
total $2879.45
Then if you are the original poster and also need a PS pump, Toyota wants $298.43 for a grand total of $3177.88 just for parts. And this is from Toyota Parts Sales which is discounted. (I've checked their prices against other dealers and they are VERY competetive) I'm all for "Genuine Toyota" but sometimes you run into something like this and wonder just what they are thinking. 3X the price for plug wires OK, but 10X the price for anything is a little hard to swallow.

blknblu - I think they quoted a rebuild, so the housing (part 11) shouldn't be needed, but yeah, since they're doing new factory parts, the price isn't out of line...

My dealership doesnt rip people off. we have a chiltons book that tells us how much everything pays, and we use it. we do everything by the book. and yes i do believe that our parts are marked up bad but they are toyota parts, and yes they will put aftermarket parts in too. Just replace the plugs the wires will be fine until they start grounding out on the truck our wires are quality and made to last. the plugs are easy, just a pain in the ass. everything else on that truck is a pain in the ass too. but thats what you get with a 3.0, with a chiltons or a toyota repair manual you should be fine to do it all, given you have the tools and are good with your hands

it was just for the box itself and im aware that the parts house one is a reman. and it could be a pile of @#$%, but thats not that hard of a swap. I paid 3500 for my truck so why would it be worth spending 3200 on a gear box?

desert toyota out here on sahara quoted me 800 to install a/c, 1400 to rebuild engine. pretty reasonable if you ask me. to the OP: dude, are you on crack? that much money to replace belts?? do it yourself its a 30 minute job if that. the battery is super easy. the plugs and wires: remember the order the wires are in, and your fine.

no, i admit ive never worked on a 3.0. and i didnt realize he had a 3.0. ive done belts on old big blocks, expeditions, tacos, etc. they arent too hard. either way doin belts on ANYTHING aint worth no 300 dollars or w/e the dealer quoted him
