Thats pretty much a the same idea as the stock intake..
Do your own ISR mod for $25 and get a drop in K&N filter (if you must, I prefer stock).
If you really want "cold air induction" Remove your drivers side headlight

Don't waste your $$ on K&N, it's overpriced hipe; DIY for a fraction of the cost; K&N cone filters are $50, Spectre from Autozone are $25, same thing. Headers are the one worthwhile mod for this weak engine and NWOR has some sexy looking ones, if I wasn't changing engines, I would fork out for the headers over anything else, it's the best proven gains. Just did the ISR mod this week and it's great, not a race car but it growls and has better throttle response. As for power, well, it's a 3vze......

The trouble with DIY is adapting the AFM inlet to a round pipe or filter opening. Most ISR mods re-use the air box for that reason.
I wanna buy this first kit just for the adapter. But for $40, what you get is just as good as the ISR mod I did, plus you get the better filter. They sell red or blue.

Yeah, the trickiest part of the ISR mod is finding or fabbing and adaptor to fit the VAFM to the filter. I used some plexiglass, a 4-3" reducer and some screws and epoxy and it's still holding up perfect but took a little time. not all that hard though. My biggest concern with that kit ^^^ is that it's metal and will really up the intake air temps compared to stock intake or plastic pipe. of course you could wrap it also with some heat insulation. put the chrome tube in my taco and it got hot and stayed hot reeeeeally long after shutting the engine down. I used some insulation and alumninum tape but I want to go to plastic tubing.

K&N filters let ALL KINDS OF DIRT into your engine. Why would you jeopardize your engine for a couple of horsepower (& that's at like 5400 rpm)? Standard Toyota filters have a MUCH higher filter ratio.

i got my KN FIPK pretty cheap so i was alright with the minimal performance gains but i did notice a little better throttle response, acceleration and mpgs. it looks great too, cleans up the engine bay and makes changing out spark plugs a little bit easy with more room.
if u want the same performance gains on the cheap, id do the isr mod and what i call the "swiss cheese airbox mod" lol. heres the link for the swiss cheese air box https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f130...-engine-75127/
i did the airbox mod and loved it! lol hella loud, and just about the same gains i got from the K&N.
