Just as an addendum to this old post—
I was ferreting around checking my wiring and fuses in my semi-new-to-me truck, only to find that the PO (or probably the PO's PO) had replaced a 15 with a 30, I'm assuming for the sake of the aftermarket radio he shoddily wired in. He'd also glued an LED to the side of the instrument panel that shines across the gauges. When I bought the truck, I assumed that this meant the dash bulbs were out or disconnected because of his wiring; the clock was out too.
Well, after noting the 30 this afternoon, I also realized that there was a 7.5 missing and—here's the kicker that makes me a fellow idiot—the dimmer was turned all the way down. Yup. I've been driving with the guy's LED on at night because I hadn't gotten around to the wiring yet and just assumed it was out. Life's inertia had kept me from bothering with even a cursory review of the fuse panels.
The moral of this story? Check the dumb stuff first.
