My question is the hole in the ozone that was seen with infared for so long disappeared into thin air. Now no one can find it. Where in the hell did it go, did the atmosphere say it had enough and let some out? I dont know. The planet has a way of purging itself, and it will happen. Either bacteria or nature will eventually give in.

Ground level ozone is very toxic and produces SMOG, the cat is currently one of the only tools we have to combat ground level ozone.

Emissions and maintenance inspections will be coming nationwide at some point. Hopefully sooner than later. Obama is already calling for stricter emissions standards and legislation or else states will not receive federal funding for their highway projects.

why are you guys even fighting about this there is nothing you can do. except it and live your life you won t live forever.

gas motors put out way more pollution then diesels but i get dirty looks from every hybrid driver i pass. maybe its the truck and trailer sized smoke cloud i leave behind. 800 horses is fun!!!

im calling BULL on the misconception that diesels are less pollutive. sure, everyone knows gas cars are pollutive. but you cant see the smoke. a diesel you CAN usually see the smoke when its driving. they say diesels dont pollute as much because the fumes DONT RISE! yeah, they hang out down with us. diesel, as we know, is less refined gasoline, so it still has some oil in it. those molecules dont rise into the atmosphere, thus being 'less pollutive'.

either way the global warming argument for the cat is complete bull. it does absolutely nothing for reducing carbon emissions, it converts carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide, and turns nox back into nitrogen and oxygen.

but nox and hc's is what gives LA its nice brown sky.

with a car, the more co2 produced, the better it's running, generally speaking.

hollowing out your cat will most likely cause a very minor loss of low end torque. They are not nearly as restrictive as people think. We are talking about a 4 cylinder truck engine, not a 1000 HP race engine.

I stupidly hollowed out the converters on my Ford Bronco II & it did cause a minor loss in low end power. Besides this the exhaust was stinky after. I ended up buying new converters for it. Each vehicle may be different but this has been my experience. I now leave ALL of my emissions in tact.

They produce more AND they produce less, depends on which pollutants you are talking about. Diesels produce much larger quantites of particulates and NOx while gas produce much larger CO2 and HC.

Nano particles and ultra-fine particles from diesels are extremely harmful to the elderly and children and are now associated with heart disease and many respiratory diseases. Once you breath these particles in, your lungs can never get rid of them, they are too small for the body to expel. This is why many heavy duty trucks are now required to have diesel particulate filters on the exhaust.

Diesel pollute manily ground level while gas engine pollute manily atmospheric.

One is not better than the other. There are pros and cons to both.
