Finally the motor is out! I lucked out, the right upper bolt was not that tight, the driver's side was a major PITA, new hole in one of my knuckles from when it finally broke free. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. Now to try and source a donor car for a 3.4 or regrettably put another 3.0 in this thing.

finally getting the time and space to work on my blown head gasket.
I upgraded my storage rental to a 10' x 29' unit and pushed the 4runner into it a couple weeks ago.
been doing things a little at a time.
removed timing belt and pulleys. easy cuz I did the timing belt before.
the induction - air intake - was super easy.
took off the plenum, injection and needed a rubber mallet to break the intake manifold loose. it is all black and gooey inside.
starting on the exhaust now. I have been pb blasting the crap out of the manifolds and flanges.
flanges are all unbolted. will be wriggling these things out this weekend.
started the driver side exhaust manifold today. all bolts came out rather easily. surprise, surprise. but the front part of it had no bottom bolt and above it the nut was missing on the stud. don't think it leaked either.
will be going after the passenger side tomorrow.
made myself one of those bigs1961 cam tools. super easy, but couldn't find the 2 inch bar stock. had to settle for inch and a half. hope it holds when I get around to taking the cam sprockets off.
