OP is asking for the best way to lift a lifted truck to work on it. In no way am I saying that hi lifts are super scary and will cause death, but they do have that potential. Hell, i've used mine out on the trails to winch, lift wheels to stack rocks, as a hammer for tent stakes, even to lift cabs/beds off the frame. But they are not the safest or best way to lift a truck to work on it.

try a google search of hi lift accidents and the stories go on and on. It is a recovery tool and should be treated that way.

This bears repeating.

Like I said, accidents never happen until they do. By then, its too late.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion... I never said using a mechanical jack was the ONLY way to lift a truck, I just find it most convenient for my own uses.

Also, a word on the "SAFETY concerns" about high lift's:

while I have no doubt that quite a few documented accidents have happened with high lift jacks. How many of those accidents happened back in the woods, or on a trail where they were using it in an "emergency scenario" to begin with?

I'd be willing to bet that a high percentage of them were, if someone somehow had a horrific accident using a high lift on perfectly level/stable ground (like my driveway, for example) then they were just using the jack incorrectly. The same "accident" could happen by misusing a bottle jack or floor jack too.

But hey, thats just my opinion... and you know what they say about those things...

This will probably be my last post in this thread unless someone decides to start calling me dumb/stupid again for using a Jack to lift a vehicle as it was intended to do.

OP, choose what ever method is most convenient to you so long as you're confident that you can do it safely.

Have a good night everyone.

In all seriousness I would use a floor jack with a 4X4 or a 6X6 to lift it and then set it on the jack stands.
