Got the parts and put them in. Tightened everything to specs and pressurized the fuel system and had leaks everywhere. I tightened everything tighter than specs until it quit leaking and then just a little more, and put everything back together. No more gas leak, no missing at low idle, all is great now!

Now to test my gas mileage to see how much better it will be without the leaking gas all over the place.

Thanks guys!

Mike!

Did you use new crush washers? They're about a buck a piece at the dealer. Lots of folks here will claim you can re-use old ones, but for a dollar? (holding back pressurized gasoline?)

It was Saturday and when I tried to buy new washers at the parts store, they only had the ones for the pulsation damper, so the crossover tubes and cold start injector fittings re-used the original washers. The dealership was closed too, so no luck there. I had to get it back on the road, since I don't have another vehicle to use.

It isn't leaking now, so I think I am good to go.

I do have a rough idle now though. Hesitates below 2000 RPM but when it's cold it is fine, but the idle is higher then. I found one vacuum leak and fixed that but didn't really help. Trying to figure out a good way to check for more leaks.

A higher idle when the engine is cold is normal, mine will idle up to +500 RPM when it's really cold in the winter. It should settle down to 800-850 RPM when it's warm.

A good way to check for a vacuum leak is to use an unlit propane torch or a can of carb cleaner and spray it near each and every vacuum hose (there's a lot in a 3vze...). Do this when the engine is COLD! If the engine is hot, you risk setting your engine on fire if the gas/cleaner hits your headers !

If you hear the idle change at all, there's a leak. If it dies, you've got a large leak. Visually inpect the hoses as well, there may be tears or cracks in the middle. Vacuum hosing is cheap, $1 per foot so if it's questionable, replace it.

Here's a video on it:

Very good video and helpful too. I appreciate that Gamefreakgc. I have some carb cleaner spray and a fire extinguisher in my truck too. I will have to try that after work today. I'll let you know what I find.
