87 Toyota pickup

My buddy has an 87 Toyota pickup 4wd 5spd with the 22r I believe. 2 barrel carb. it will not start. It has a brand new coil. Wires. Plugs. Cap. Rotor. Fuel pump. Fuel filter. It's getting awesome spark. It is getting fuel at least to the inlet side of the carb. But when you crank it and tap the gas and all that you get nothing. I pulled the new plugs and they didn't even smell like gas. I sprayed the carb with gum out and still nothing. Need help. Please

What's it do when you dump a little gas down the carb?

Oddly. Nothing. I think the timing chain slipped a few teeth. Not too sure

If the motor spins and your getting gas through your carb but it wont fire I would check the timeing. The chain is pretty cheep and you may have the option of upgradeing to a dual row chain. Peace of mind.

I would check the igniter this box sits on the driver side and could be the problem. The distributer also has an electronic pickup that could be bad.

The coil is brand new. Gets plenty of fuel. IT turned out that the timing chain guides busted into like a thousand pieces and let the chain get some slop and slipped 8 teeth. When you rest the timing be sure that the cam timing mark is at roughly 1145 and the crank is tdc. Makes things alot easier.

Tried starting fluid?

Pulled the valve cover to make sure the timing chain hasn't broke, and the cam turns when you turn the crankshaft?
