22re turbo kit
I have a 1993 Toyota pickup 22re it has a California ecu and harness, its a 4wd manual transmission sitting on 33's with 488 gears in the front and rear and I am thinking about adding a low boost turbo to give me just a little more power for going up hills and pulling a trailer but I don't know how to set it up. do I really need a stand alone fuel management system to run the turbo since it will be low boost? or will the factory 22re ecu be able to run the low boost turbo? trying to keep from spending an arm and a leg. I was thinking of going to 529 gears but I don't want to knock the top end speed down anymore than it already is. thanks in advance for any advice or information provided.

Boost with a stock ecm will not work. I’ve considered doing a blow through carb setup. But haven’t got around to it.
very few people have actually put together well working turbo 22r engines. Turbo fuel injection is complicated and expensive. Engine management is going to be custom. I can’t see how a properly tuned custom turbo engine setup can cost less than $5000. And that’s if you already have a strong motor.
It can be done. Most would swap in a bigger engine instead.

Stock RE injectors flow around 190, the RTE flow around 290. The stock ECU is capable of about a 20% trim (that might actually be 15% before it throws the code)

22re turbo!
HEY! I'm a bit late to respond but dont listen to people who tell you what you can or cant do with stock 22re, low boost is 100% possible. I know because I daily a boosted 22re toyota pickup. I boosted it myself for under $1000. You will have hiccups yes, but everything is overcomable. Fueling I just simply adjusted my AFM to run slightly more rich and my truck runs with 7psi consistently and effortlessly. It's not terrible. However I must say, I fabricated my own manifold, exhaust, and that's pretty much all. If you have any further questions or if anyone else does please feel free to ask and I'll answer anything you all want about my setup!

I'm running a Garrett GT25R turbo from LCE on my 1987 factory turbo 4RUNNER stock injectors and the stock 22RTE ECU and an 82 Supra AFM.
the 22re injectors and ecu are different than the 22RTE
I'm running about 10lbs boost.
