Can a part number 22250-35050 replace a denso afm 22250-35060 on a '89 4runner 22re? Mine clicks hard when turning over with no start. No power at fuel pump or COR, jumped COR still no fire. Need to get the yota going asap.

The 35060 is for a 3vze, while the 35050 is 22RE.
I can see your issue, though. The 35060 looks like it has a pretty narrow production range.
There's testing procedures in the FSM. Did it fail those tests? Does it look like someone has cut into it in the past?

I am 3rd owner of a 89 4runner. It currently has a 22RE in it and the 35060 Denso, although I believe it have may been a rebuilt motor swap and there's a lot wiring to be sorted that is not stock. When turning over the 35060 clicks. My brain didn't think to check the numbers on that. Mine may have originally come with the 3vze. I'll get back to you. Thank you

You can quickly tell by the vin what Toyota built. Or the emissions decal under the hood.

I have an '89 4Runner that sounds like it is having the same issue. (sorry about the size of the image, I don't know how to make it small)
A replacement was found but it was worse off than mine. Searching around I can find the 35050 but the 35060 is pretty much non-existent. Can the other be used? Mine is the 22RE, not the 3VZE

I'd need a model number and production date to confirm, but if yours is a 1989 22RE then 35050 would be the correct one.
From the few model # I checked, 35050 covered 1989-1995 for the 22RE

My mechanic verified with Toyota that the 35060 is the proper part

Ah, ok. If your Vehicle was built 8/88-3/89 then yes, 35060 is correct. From 4/89-01/95 then 35050 would be the right one.

Ok so curiosity and insomnia got me last night... after lots of searching the online parts catalog this is what I determined.

22250-35060 (8/88 - 3/89) is for 22REC (CA emissions)

22250-36050 (8/88 - 11/95) is for 22RE (non CA emissions)

22REC from 8/83 - 8/88 used 22250-35020. If njbradjr is in CA (or pass smog in general) then maybe you can use that part # as a replacement. Here's one on ebay.

Another interesting point is as far back as 85 (as far as I looked), if you have EFI then you're a 22REC. Look for yourself if you're not convinced.

I'd rather score a used 35050 from a salvage yard that hasn't had the seal cut, then a "reman" unit off the internet. Hopefully it works and doesn't set codes.
To really, truly look up parts the right way you should always have the model number and production date. But 1989 is a must.
