My 87 4runner has one and it works...slowly comes on.

Side note.....I've noticed that some time years ago, my 4WD indicator lights on my SR5 gauge cluster stopped working. Lights are new, and 3WD DOES ENGAGE. This was on my earlier transmission, and now with the replacement one I put in last month - 4WD is on, but the light doesn't indicate that.

Any idea what it could be? Sensors are plugged in....what would I test for, either at the transmission or at the cluster, to see if the right signal is being sent or not?

Not a must have, just curious since we're on the topic

Even more rare than that is your altimeter that displays photos of girls. Must have been limited edition option.

My 87 turbo p/u is not an sr5 and it does have the light......it's on all the time and the gauge is always on empty. I'm hoping it's as easy as replacing the sending unit and it's fixed.

That's just because turbo trucks are awesome enough that they don't need the sr5 package lol.

my 86 sr5 4 runner had a low fuel light, it came on very slowly and went out and came on very slowly (fuel sloshing around moving the sender)

and my 87 Turbo 4 runner has a low fuel light, although. once it comes on, it stays on.. once the light comes on, i can go exactly 25.4 more miles till the truck dies. haha.

In the months I've owned my truck I've only seen the light come on twice and then it shuts off. I caught the light in action today

and then this light came on and shut off.

My low fuel light shares the Charge light for some reason.

Low fuel is float switch in the tank. Part of the level sensor so you have to drop the tank to fix it.

It's done it since I bought it in 2004 and I've put over 100k miles on it since then. Based on the FSM testing procedure, there's really no way to tell if the switch was engineered to give first and second warnings or if it's just a worn spot.

I don't really care but it would be cool if someone actually knew the answer to this.
Neither, it is more or less a moisture sensor, it detects when it is moist and when it is not. Chances are living a very long life in a hellish environment has taken its toll on the little guy.
