Spark Plug/Wire Question

I have a 1994 Toyota Pickup 22RE engine. I was wondering if the NGK BPR5EY spark plugs, like the one listed here http://www.amazon.com/NGK-BPR5EY-V-P...6979313&sr=1-1 is the right spark plug to use. I realize the other option is the DENSO W16EXR-U plug. Also, when I replace the spark plugs on my truck, do I need to torque the plugs down to any specific rating or is just snug plus 1/2 turn? I'm also looking to replace the spark plug wires. What are my choices there? I would greatly appreciate all help!

just make em snug good. if you overtighten you could possibly stript the treads and cause problems...just snug em up good and youll be fine

Hey PM88, .....

If you're not ''well versed" with these, or any aluminum heads for that matter, I would recommend doing it to "recommended torque"... Oddly enough, i don't have my FSM on this computer, so I would be guessing, .............. I'm fairly sure it's between 14-19# MAX! As said, over HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES, lol.... things heat up and cool down enough that even the aluminum is not what it was, new. SOOOOO, ... you could take a couple pounds of recommended specs, ya know?

I am fairly certain the haynes has the spec, too.

Far as wires... if you're mostly stock or not, I think OEM is the best way to go. Not a single Guru has told me differently in all the years I've messed with these(which is FAR more in depth over the last couple of years, for me, lol)... You can find deals, I'm pretty sure, from sites on here, like densodirect.com or something like that. 02 Sensors and such are much cheaper from their site or ''authorized seller" sites, from what I know. The perform and last the best, from everything I've gathered over hundreds of hours of reading on this site, speaking with many Yota-Guru's in person and on phone, etc....

Thank you for all your responses. I decided on the NGK spark plugs recommended in the user manual rather than the Denso spark plugs. I also ordered NGK TX59 wires, along with a new cap and rotor. Any idea if the NGK BPR5EY plugs are tapered or a crush washer?

Depends on the model of the plug. Some heads call for tapered seat, others use a washer. If your truck still has the decal under the hood, it should tell you the plug to use. I have seen alot of Toys that had the plug brand and model on the emissions ID sticker.

Also, I recommend you use a little antiseize on the threads of the plug. This will save you from a lot of headache later in the trucks service life. It also serves a second purpose of giving you a more accurate torque reading if you're going to torque them to specs...
