only for those who like mind games: 3.0 plugs in 22Re
okay so I was doing the yearly tune up right before emmisions. and was replacing plugs and wires cap and rotor.
heres where it gets weird. my truck has ran pretty good for this past year, using the plugs that are in it now which I bought from the toyota dealer last summer.
Today I went to the dealer got new plugs and wires and went to auto zone and got a new cap and rotor.
Got it all installed fired it up and it ran like crap, granite it ran perfectly fine 30 minutes ago it had to of been something I just did.
long story short it hit me that I had to use two different size spark plug sockets for what was supposed to be the same denzos for the 22re
I then grabbed the numbers of the two different plugs and ran them threw
globaldenso.com
and google just to double check.
these were my results
old plugs ran good in the truck for the past year-(k16r-u11)
PICKUP SR5 1989 V6 3 3VZE 5303 3435 3301 4503 K16R-U
new plugs- ran like crap, rough idle-(w16exr-u)
PICKUP SR5 1985 L4 2.4 22REC 5305 - 3004 4501 W16EXR-U
So in conclusion according to everything I have been reading I currently have the 3.0 v6 plugs in my 22re and they allow the engine to run great and that plugs that are ment to be in the engine run like crap.
Can someone explain this to me?

because I wasn't expecting the wires to be 90 bucks, but that's not supposed to be that way so why would I let it be, there is obviously a problem and they wanted me to wait till Tuesday for cap an rotor and the one I just got obviously works good

all the wires correctly snapped into place?? if they arent all the way connected the engine will stumble. which begs the question...what symptoms does the truck have besides "runs like crap"

Have you put the old cap and rotor back on with the new plugs in to verify that the problem is the plugs? You could swap old and new parts around till you isolate the problem. Some motors can be picky about ignition components. I don't know about the 22RE in particular but I had a Ranger (I'll never make that mistake again) that ran much better with Autolite plugs and wires than anything else I used.

Yes I have switche everything around and isolated it to the plugs
Runs pretty decent with te 3.0plugs but i think it's not getting a complete burn because of them and the 22re plugs run like crap. It's so confusing

Since you have isolated it to the plugs, have you pulled off the plug wire while it's missing (I assume it misses when just revving)? If you can pinpoint it to a cylinder, then you can swap plugs(but be sure you can identify the bad cylinder spark plug) and verify that the problem is one defective plug. Then it can be replaced. It's something to check, if you haven't done so already....

Someone correct me if this isn't right, but going by the numbers you listed on the plugs from your original post I believe the 16 in K16R and W16EXR is the heat rating of the plugs so they should give the same burn rate. If it's not getting a complete burn the O2 sensor should pick that up and tell the ECU to lean the A/F mixture. It sound to me like one or more of the plugs are faulty. I'd try to see if you can exchange them for new ones.

It is possible to get bad plugs out of the box, if someone dropped the plugs somewhere along the line, it can then cause faulty plugs. I have had this more then once and now check my plugs before putting them in for cracks and abnormalities.
But I don't believe that you need to change plugs, wires, cap and rotor once a year, it is a bit overkill if your engine is running fine. As the old saying goes "if it aint broke, don't fix it."

I have had new plugs be dead or defective out of the box, why well it's 2012 that's why. But as far as wires I got my truck from the original owner and I just changed them they had 1991 stamped on the wires, well figured I would change them and it made no difference, not saying they didnt need to go but once a year is a waste of loot. Plugs sure cap and rotor why not but stick with factory, wait what am I replying to......so did you get new plugs yet.

Also on top of failing emmisions I went to Toyota and they gave me 4 brand new plugs threw then in and boom same super super ˟˟˟˟ty idol problem, an there the ones made for my engine. I have switched plugs so many times there has to be an answear for this
