Hard start after changing fuel pressure regulator

85 22re

After noticing a small leak from my fuel pressure regulator I changed it. The new one I got I had to crank the truck and pump the pedal for almost a minute before the truck started. So I took back that regulator and got another new one. Well this one was a bit better but still takes about 15 seconds to start... If I turn the truck over and pump the gas for a few seconds and stop then turn the truck over again it starts up. Possibility I got 2 bad regulators?? Is there a way to check this? It has always fired right up btw...

That's what I was kinda thinking. The check valves were leaking through and not holding fuel/pressure in the line... But it started fine with my old leaky regulator...

The old regulator might not have been working properly. Upon the install of a new properly working regulator the added stress on an old fuel pump could cause it to stop working properly.

Ok awesome. Thanks for the replies. Now if I could only find a pump with the sending unit (since mine doesn't work) I would be set!!!
