Your carpet is all one piece ?, every 4Runner ive ever seen the carpet is two pieces and it comes together under the rear seat. You have me wondering what kind of rear seat set up you have, can you send me a picture of what your back seat looks like ?.

My phone is bein stupid and won't let me send any emails out. But imagine a bench seat but really plush, the back isn't hard and it does not fold down flush. I can fold the back onto it and pivot it forward... if that makes sense. So when its folded forward there is a big depression where the regular 4runners back of the rear seat would be

Yeah its a granville edition and its customized by some company in il. It had running boards. Still has a cb mounted under stock pioneer radio and a duel cb fm antena. I'm guessing it was supposed to go with a granville motorhome as some special editon or somethin. It also has dif rims. Has real plush seats also.

i say pull you tank down for good measure.. clean it out and do some preventive maintenace while you got the tank out
check all your wiring... look for hookie half job wiring with different splice jobs by some hill jack before you...
run fuel straight to the intake with your own home made pump tank and presure reg. and see if the truck is still doing the spitting and sputtering while doing a completly fuel system. and starting the truck...
you might narrow down your problem... doing that..

as we're going here I've got some fears...
My fears are, one, you don't have the hatch. That's an insta pull...
And 2, you don't have the EFI tank I think you have...
BUT, it all fits... Your starvation problems at fuel levels.... THIS is the only thing it could be...
My friend, Toyota did some weird stuff back then... Just don't get mad at me if you have to pull the tank and it's not the one pictured above...
What does your book say about changing the fuel pump?
Also see post 12 for pics of the OPs rear seat... too bad there aren't any of the rear floor

Also this has me wondering.... if my truck has an 84 manual, vin plate. But my title says 85. And if the 22re wasn't in 4runners till 85 what's going on? Btw I looked under my truck and my gas tank skid plate is missing... could very well be a dif tank... also my owners manual doesn't cover the fuel pump..

I may be wrong, but IIRC, the 1st of the 6 months, Jan - June is considered that year. July - Dec. Is considered the next year...
And There was actually an EFI in 84.
Like I said, I've seen Toyota do some weird things...
Trace your fuel line back and try and find a pump on the frame rail...
If you can't find it, it has to be in the tank... And the 84 carb truck I have, a EFI pump will not fit into it...

Makes sense. Wonder what's up with the different rear seat though. Tomorow is my project day since its race day today... so I plan on dropping the tank and checkin.
Btw does anyone know of any good junkyards near charlotte or in upstate sc?

Date on door stamp is nov 1984. Also has a dif valve cover than my buddys 85. Its just like the one in that link about the 84 with the seat like mine. I'm guessing itsa toyota tank I cann see where the plate is supposed to be...

If its NOV its and 85. Do you know the history of the engine at all? Most of the older model 22R"E" had a slope in the front of the valve cover. Its prob original. The tank has been dropped before then... (someone prob didn't know about the access door under the seat).

EFI came out in mid year 1984 in pick ups, and i believe it was an option (special order) for 4Runners, in 1985 EFI was pretty much standard in trucks and 4Runners, but the 22R was still available also.
