A340F 3rd to OD shift problem
I have a 1985 4runner with an A340H that is experiencing the following problem with 3rd to OD shifting:
The transmission has a tendency to shift quickly into OD from 3rd and often seems to skip over 3rd entirely.
This occurs at all operating temperatures (i.e. even at cold start), whether or not the OD button is depressed.
In addition, the OD to 3rd downshift seems to be non-existent. At speeds up to about 60 mph, the transmission will instead shift from OD to 2nd when the throttle is wide open. ?€œTurning off?€? the OD with the OD button does not trigger an OD to 3rd down shift either
I did the mechanical shift test (with solenoids disconnected) and the transmission behaves as it should (L=1st, 2=3rd, D=OD)
I tried swapping the ECT with one that I know to be good, but that made no difference, so I?€™m assuming the ECT is OK.
Based on this information, I?€™m inclined to think that one or more of the solenoids need replacing but I thought I?€™d check here first to see if anyone has any other suggestions (other than a 5spd swap :-)) before I spend the money?
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated -
