85 4runner , 1"shackle lift on flat stock leaf springs questions
hello, I have an stock 85 4runner with leaf springs that have never been changed so there 26 old and flat , the bump stop to the frame is about an inch in the front, and when I go over bumps I think it bottoms out , and believe me when it does that you feel it , I was wondering if I get a some longer shackles to lift the front and rear 1inch , will I have any problems with steering or anything else. will it make the springs even flatter faster than if I left the original shackles in. its just to get it a little more travel from the bump stop to the frame .. thanks in advance

There are no shackles on the front of the rear leaf springs.
I had the same issue so I made some longer shackles for the back. I think I ended up making the holes 7" apart on center. Leveled the truck out pretty well.

You wouldn't really notice much going with the 1" shackle, If your gonna spend the money for shackles I would go with the extended shackle setup, I got a set added to my 3" lift front & rear which give me a good 5" lift and they made a big difference, I got mine from northwest off road yrs ago, the front are 3" longer then stock which gives you 2" of lift and the back are 2" 5/8" longer then stock which will give you 1'' 5/8'' of a lift on the back.

OP, you can do this. Shackles that are 2" longer than stock will provide 1" of lift. I would suggest that you look at other options though as it sounds like your springs are pretty worn out and could stand to be replaced or re-arched.

I agree with new shocks... and also do the shackle I ran a 3" longer shackle front and rear and it helped some but just never liked the look, now Im running a 1" longer shackle and rides better and looks better...

ok thanks , I have new shocks ,it did make it ride better . if I go 2 inches taller than my stock shackle which should net me 1inches off lift , do I need to move the lsvp , or modify anything, oh , till I need longer shocks ? thanks I am new to this stuff

Your lspv should be fine since you are simply trying to return your truck to original ride height and not significantly lifting it. Right now your lspv thinks that the truck is loaded, putting it closure to factory ride height will be an improvement.

good thought , thanks I just had a thought about how the rear sags more than the front how would , 1 1/2 inch shackle lift in the back and stay with the 1inch shackle lift in the front

Yo rattlers , what up ! I know the feeling of the back squating , which my 85 sr5 4runner on 33x12 50 was doing also . So I also tried the shackle thing and got a 6inch eye to eye shackle and only in the back and it about leveled it out. Lifted it a tiny more than front but I likey ,much better with new shocks it rides nice.
