2nd gen budbuilt skid/crossmember/belly question

I'm about to place an order for a budbuilt skid, but I have a few questions for other 2nd gen owners first-
from what I gather, Bud makes 3 parts for our 'runner, right?
skid
crossmember
belly pan

I was thinking of just getting a skid, but for a bit more I can get a crossmember too...

would you recommend starting with a skid, and then later getting a crossmember, or do you think it's better to get both right away?

is the crossmember necessary, what exactly does it do?

is the skid good to start with, or it meaningless without the entire crossmember/belly?

thanks for your help!
