1988-1998 chevy fender flares?

Hi, Anyone ever try to custom fit 1988-1998 Chevy OEM fender flares to their trucks? It looks like they're a pretty close match. I'm thinkin if you cut them in half, took a few inches out of the top, and patched them, they would be almost identical in shape to the factory square "built-in" flares we got. A little finessing, and they could take their place almost exactly, or so it seems to me...

The reason I ask is that I have some rust around the rear wheel wells on my 85 4runner (big surprise) and I wanna fix it on the cheap and get the fender flare look at the same time. AND I don't want to go any wider (or much wider) than the factory fenders. I like the skinny tire kinda look and I don't want the truck to be any wider than the tires, if ya get me. I'd do the fronts too.

Betcha it would look pretty cool and be pretty practical at the same time.

Anyone have any experience with this before I head on down to pick-yer-part and tear these off a Chev? Anyone know of any reason I shouldn't or can't do this? Better solution?

Thanks for any info anyone can give me. I love this site, I'm totally addicted and have learned alot. Wife's kinda annoyed.

PS. I tried searching, but didn't find anything quite like this...

If they're at a pick a part, they're prob pretty cheap. Get them and be a pioneer.... Post every step of your build process. Sounds like a great idea! Good luck!!

Looks like the earlier Dodges would fit nice too... not as wide either. Gotta get to pick-a-part, see what they got. May take me a bit to gitter done, but I'll show off once I do.

how is it working? I have a T100 with rear wheel rust and was debating a similar project vs welding. Wondering if 1988-1995 toyota pickup panels would fit the T100 (with a little help).
