110 mph w/ 32's and 4.56 gears (speedo is dead accurate) and still pulling a bit, but it starts to feel vague, handling wise, around 95 so I didn't want to push it any harder . . . at least until I get my suspension sorted and the T100 calipers on

Man, no kidding about 33's on stock gearing.

I used to be able to pull off 90MPH with relative ease with the 31's, but now, it struggles to get past 75MPH. If I downshift to 4th, and keep my foot in it, I've got to around 87(which is corrected for the larger tires to around 92MPH). But after 75, it takes about 2 minutes to get to 85. I'm thinking I need a new year's resolution to get some 4.88's, and maybe an air locker for the rear if I'm feeling really fancy, or if I win the lottery.

'88 4Runner, 5 speed, 3.0L, 31x10.5 tires, 4.10 gears, I had it up to 85 miles per hour going downhill then realized about 10 miles later that I had the a/c on. So I might be able to hit 90 downhill.

Well my 99' 4runner SR5 is pretty good on speed actually. Its the 4speed auto..... Sucks I know but Ive hit 110 in mine easy. I think i might have gotten higher once but I would be surprised if I wanted to pay for the gas for that lol. 16mpg sucks.

And thats stock across the board btw. No mods to it except all stereo

Had my 90-5SPD up to 80 and it was supprisingly smooth with no vibration. With 233K on motor Im not going to push it ever.By the way that 80 mph was in a 75 zone here in colorado.Have yet to see what it will or will not do in mountain climbing but its looking like 4th gear mostly.Just bought it aug.18th,only owned cars until now.

~90mph loaded with a boat on the roof and maybe 400lbs of other crap. flat and level ground 3500' elevation. Edit: thought this was in the 86-95 forum. Oh well, just know I'm just as slow...

1990 4Runner 22RE, 5 speed. 4.10 axle ratio.

With stock 235/75's I could get it up to around 165 with a stiff tailwind.

When I went to the 31's, it went down to around 150ish with a neutral wind.

Now with the 35x12.5's, I can get it up to about 120 with a neutral wind and no recovery gear. Loaded with all my gear and a couple buddies combinded with a decent headwind, it topped out at just shy of 105.

This is all in km/h though

And the non-PRE 84 trucks continue to post...we know newer trucks can go fast! This is in the pre-84 section.

1980 2wd 5 speed will do 100 mph easy!! Go 20R GO!(not stock)
1981 toyota R.V. will do 80 mph.(stock) But I would never go that fast in it! It will do it!!!!
1986 sr5 4x4 will do 100 mph easy!! Go turbo! GO!! This truck will launch at 80 mph with 31x10.5 BFG mud terrains!
1987 22r 4x4 will do 85 mph on BFG all terrains.

Love this thread. This might be missing the point since I don't have a "built" truck like most of you do but my bone stock 1980, never rebuilt can haul a$ when it has to.

While the speedo is broken on it, it has been clocked at 80 mph being followed by a friend. I believe it may be possible to go all the way to redline in 5th gear - I won't be trying that anytime soon though.

Remember that this is a stock 2wd truck - very very light in those days. I think it came with the 4.10 rear axle. It is very light and has ample power with the 20R under the hood.

My high school buddy's '81 Toyota 1L diesel 2wd could make about 75 on level ground. Couldn't climb grades for you-know-what though. I wish I had a 1L though... What a wonderful simple little engine.

That is what always attracted me to the older Toyota pickups. They harken to a simpler time - a time when people weren't in such a darned hurry! While there are some jobs on this truck where I have cursed the Japanese engineers, they are few and far between. Our earlier Toyotas (in fact most Toyota 4 cylinder rides) are quite easy to work on. I can't remember doing a simpler radiator replacement! Old trucks in general always did a lot for me - the days when Trucks were TRUCKS and not all civilized. Heck my brother's Power Stroke has a nicer interior than my mom's Honda Accord. Now that's just not right!

Was visiting my Dad's shop a few weeks back and had the opportunity to help him put a hood hinge in a 1967 Ford F250. Had just over 100K on it - 390 V8 with MANUAL steering, an all original interior and the original single speaker AM radio. What a truck! It topped out around 75 on the highway though as it was clearly geared as a work truck (3 speed C6 automatic).

OK I'm stepping off my soapbox for now. There is always a valid counterpoint to the above and I don't want to go down in flames here!

My 1994 22re 5spd 4x4 sitting on 31" BFG all-terrains does about 95 mph on a good day but she starts screaming at about 90 and I can almost watch my gas needle falling

Yeah, these older trucks are great. It's still funny how people with POST 1984 trucks keep posting...the whole point of this thread is to see how fast your PRE-84 trucks go, for the very reasons cdg was talking about.

"Hey, my 2006 Ferrari can go 200 mph!!!!" Yeah, we know.

Now that my weber is jetted right i got my 81 to bout 165kmh says gps. Never again i almost died no joke. Was in 4th gear bout 6000rpmish and i had to slam the brakes for this corner and ya solid axle with no sway bars = no fun in brakin. The top end in this motor is like riding a 2stroke dirtbike
