Yes U Can OME + HiSteer
#22
I am in the process of installing high steer on my truck and wanted to post a few pics of it mocked up to make sure I've got the IFS box in the right spot before I started drilling and welding. I just installed OME medium springs with 5" shackles and will post a writeup when I get the whole thing done because there seems to be a lot of questions about OME.
Everything I've read is get the box as far forward and as high as possible (but I realize most people move the axle forward). However, should the drag link and tie rod be parallel (viewed from the side of the truck)? That is how I have it positioned now, with the box as high as it will go and clear the frame. I realize I will have to put longer bumpstops on to limit the up travel to when the spring gets flat.

It looks good, but if you want to run bigger tires later, you might want to consider moving it forward a little more. I am running the OME 008 springs but I drilled the spring perches 1 1/4" so the axle is forward and the only other thing is Sky's flat pitman arm. There is about 1/8" of pitman clearance to the frame at one point.

Thanks for the input guys. I like the thought of putting it far enough forward that if I want to move my axle later I can. My only concern was the rods being parallel, maybe it doesn't really matter?
I was thinking about the flat pitman arm today. But, I'm thinking that it wouldn't really gain me anything because the tie rod seems to be the limiting factor on up travel (hitting the oil pan). At least with the axle in the stock position. Is that correct?
Yopar- Nice job on your truck! Looks awesome! Have the rear springs settled? My shackle angle is like yours and I'm hoping it will improve.

The flat pitman arm allows you to rotate the steering box so that it can be moved further forward.
They do not need to be parallel, just need to have it adjusted so that straight is at the middle of the rotation of the arm.
Definitely leave the option of moving the axle forward open, you'll be kicking yourself if you have to redo it later because you change your mind.

As of the pics you posted everything looks good, but if you move your axle forward you will have some issue's. BTW make sure you check all your clearances with your tires on and the truck sitting on the ground before you weld it up. Also take in consideration of your tires being stuffed up in your fenders when wheeling... Good luck and hope this thread helped you out

This is the way my truck sits now on 32's. I could clear 33's but I do most of my wheelin in the southern apps. mountains. Mostly steep dirt hills with no turn arounds at the end of the trails so I prefer to keep it low and locked. I have not measured my chassis clearance but in my situations I have never been hung up. It seems like im always teetering on two wheels, and most of the time I dont like it. BUT who never tried, Never Did.
