Stock Dual Battery Trays
Just been cleaning out my engine bay in my 81 and just noticed it has a Stock battery tray on each side.
The window washer fluid and rad overflow are on top covering most of it up, But it is the exact same as the passenger side with all the mounts. Is this stock for all First Gens?
I cant remember if my 82 or 83 had it. Where would you mount the washerfluids if I used both sides? Ill post some pics if you want to see, just has me thinking

I am pretty sure that there is a spot on either side since the diesel version of the truck has 2 batteries. Not sure where the washer fluid would go...diesels must have a different reservoir.

Haha, Never noticed that, my stock battery location is pretty much rusted out, Gotta fix that... maybe il go dual batteries too, I bet you could find a washer fluid bottle/rad overflow out of something else that would work in a different location.

my washer fluid is from a pontiac grand prix, but I still mounted it in the stock location. Mine doesn't have a battery tray, but there are holes there where one would bolt in. Which reminds me I need a new one for the battery anyway. Been holding it on with a bungee.

So diesel First gens had 2 batterys stock? I pieced this truck together a few years back... and bought this cab for $200 from some hicks backyard. Heres some pics
View from Passenger side
Normal battery Tray in use
Then the 2nd tray covered up with washer fluid/rad overflow..
Anyone have pics of a diesel engine bay and where the fluids would go?

On first gens I don't think there was a diesel option however from looking at the pics though I would say that on right hand drive vehicles they simply reversed the locations, battery on the left and fluids on the right. The battery is usually located on the side opposite the driver for balance and handling improvement since most vehicles usually only have one occupant.
Actually all the Japan built trucks up to the third gen truck are set up for "dual" batteries, because of the diesel option available in some markets for the second and third gen models. In second and third gens everything is there for dual batteries except the hold down and tray, the only thing that relocates is the aircleaner on the diesel.

Diesel 1st Gens have been popular lately on Ebay:
1981 Diesel Toyota
This 1981 went for $2600
I worked for a guy in the late 80's who had 300K on one, he just did the normal maintanance and it just kept going...
OT but this Diesel Cruiser is the one I want:
1980 Diesel Land Cruiser

OK I was wrong there was a 1st gen diesel... in that case I have no idea where the fluid bottles would have gone lol,
what I said otherwise still applies though lol...
edit: I just took a look at that 81 for sale link in the above post... there is a pic of the engine bay... it looks like the fluid bottles [one of them at least] are moved to the right side fender in front of the hood hinge...
edit 2: second one ($2600) has a pic shows both bottles on right side looks like windshield washer reservior is closest to firewall and radiator fluid is right behind right side Batt.
