shift boot
i'm looking to replace my factory shift boot on my 81 and was looking at this one...think it will work? the only thing that worries me is the large black surround...my truck doesn't have that.

that ebay one you found looks to be a w-56 like I used for mine. here is what I did for it from my thread...it is actually about an inch too long in the middle, As far as that surround I think it is just a piece of rubber similar to what I used as an extra seal. hope this helps
the shift boot I had for my truck was pretty well toast, went on ebay to see if I could find one, last few trips to the u pull it were a bust
found one for a 85+ that the guy wanted $65 ish for it no way..
decided to try to the U Pull It again,
bought a couple out of a mazda truck and one out of an '87 4Runner (w/56), grand total $5.46.
The 4Runner shift boot is about 1" too long in the middle so I cut about an inch or so out of the middle and grafted it together, added a flat piece of rubber to help seal:

yea, mine was leather at one point and had dry rotted. i still have the rubber surround and right above the trans, a new boot would just clean it up a bit.

Judging by the time stamps of this thread, the rubber shift boot has been discontinued for sometime. Now you can finally get a new replacement:

Cool! But that link kinda sucks. I had a hard time trying to navigate your site to locate them. Try this one instead. https://cityracerllc.shutterfly.com/othertoyota/2
