My 82 4x4

I have lurked around here for awhile but haven't really posted anything so i figured i would put up some pics of my junk.

The first is my 82 4x4 sr5, i picked up the truck with the crappy lift installed already (haven't really decided what to do with the lift yet as i wanted to get the rust fixed and the truck running good). It came with a "rebuilt" engine which i know better so i pulled the pan and it was crap! I rebuilt it and used the rv cam and dual timing set, dual valve springs etc... I powder coated some of the parts and put it together. I dropped it in and got the truck running. I stripped a 87 truck and used the complete harness out of it as the 82's was crap. Also pulled the brake booster and master and a bunch of other little stuff.
Been working on the body and i am pretty close to being done. I am going to paint it the original blue/white with the stripes. Thats about where i am as of now.

Day i picked it up!

I swapped out the front third member.

motor about to go in

wiring harness going in.

drivers side body work is complete

passenger donor door, it was actually in great shape after all the paint came off!

The bed was in ok shape but it still had some rust, I cut out allot of it and welded in some new metal.

Finished up the paint in the factory colors, it came out great. Spent a crap load on paint and supplies (everything is getting so expensive now). I was planning on selling the truck to fund my other projects but I may change my mind now, the truck really looks good! I still need to swap the wheels and put on the 35's. The truck sits a little high and i wanted to drop it a couple inches.

Nice work and looking good. I would not sell it. After all of your hard work you will miss it. I have had mine for 26 years and I would never sell it. I have had alot of vehicles and loved them but My Toy has been the most fun.

+1

I just got my 82 back after a separation of 15 years. I got it when I was 17 my dad gave it to me- he bought it new. I'd lifted it and then sold it to my brother in law.

Nice paint on yours Orange. There was on ein town many years ago with that paint scheme. I always liked it.

That paint job came out awesome. Wanna practice on my Trekker?

What are your plans for the new suspension? I know you said dropping it down a couple of inches.
Gonna wheel it or DD it?

edit: what is the red truck in the back ground of the door pic? looks like a pre-79 2WD??

Wow i'm diggin that original paint i'd like to get mine done up like that some day.
I have the classic 84-85 stripes

Did you do a lot of rust hole replacement or was it pretty clean to start?

That thing is freakin tall i'd loose the body lift... i think it has one

I had some 35's around the shop so I put them on, still needs to be 38's or 40's. I decided I am probably going to sell it. I want to finish my 85 runner and need the funds. Kinda sucks but oh well.

Its a 78 I found from the original owner, New Mexico truck with no rust at all. Just getting it ready to paint in the stock red. I am going to paint on the original SR5 pinstripping on it.

Very well done, that looks great! How did you do the original colors so well. Did you have some template to work with or was it just based on pictures?

I just based it off pictures, it was originally that color but was repainted and the stripes were wrong, so I fixed it.
