just got a 83 2wd long bed DIESEL! cant get it to start.

I guess I lucked out and got a diesel truck.. but I bought it non running and can't get it to start.. compression is low on 1st cyl (100) 2nd 250 3rd 280 4th 250.. its been sitting for years so I am hoping it will re seat that 1st cyl .. so I know number one is a bit low but 3 good cyl should be enough to run.. I thought it was glow plugs so I put 4 new ones in and it didn't really help much.. injection pump is pumping to each injectors so I think its ok.. but I shot a little spray of starting fluid in her and it made it wanna go a little more but still no start.. the fuel is brownish. Do you thing the diesel is so bad that it won't ignite?

The fuel should be more of a light green color,so it wouldn't hurt to drain the whole system and replace the fuel filter.
I have been working on a diesel engine that sat for a while ,and it has been a head ache getting the fuel system cleaned out.

If it has been sitting you have changed the fuel filter???

Reprimed the system I don`t know do these prime them selves??

pull the air intake system apart and check for mice nests you need both air and fuel to make it purr.:jessica:

Well, you should drain the whole fuel system, replace the filter (or at least check it and drain the water out), and refill with new diesel. You'll probably have to hand-bleed the air out, too. This fuel does go bad over time just like gas, if not worse. Having said that, my experience has been that 250psi is not enough to fire most diesels, even with good glowplugs. You want something more like 350-450. Old gummed-up injectors won't help matters, either.

Try Rockauto , if I read it correctly they offer pistons for the 2.2 L diesel engine.
