A little over a year ago I started my restoration of a 1979 Toyota 4x4 and of course it's still on going but the truck is running. It was basically a junkyard find of a decent frame and it went from there. So now I'm trying to get the thing to not look like such a heatscore while I'm driving out on the roads. So far the hardest part for me to find has been the plastic on the front end: Grille, and Round version headlight doors. Does anyone know where to find these plastic beauties? What parts have been hard for others to find?

I've been using ebay and just many many searches online since there aren't many junkyards near me with toyotas in em.

Hardest part for me to find is a non rusted jersey toyota frame

So far the throttle cable was a bitch to find (82-83 style), Hardest part to find up here would be a frame in decent shape or interior parts that are in good shape.. I finally found an SR5 center console and the brackets.. the little coin holder was even there so I snatched that even though its the wrong color(black) but I dont care.

Funny thing is all the big pieces are easy to find(trannys, motors, axles, body panels) in good shape and are all cheap.

for me its a decent factory dash pad, they just disintegrate to dust, and a drivers side, straight clean door, everything else is easy as pie to get a hold of including round h/l grilles i got one on my wall in my room

I figured that I'd have to be checing out ebay for my parts, too bad that shipping is always such a killer. I also need a few of the more "knick knack" parts too, like the console and a centre badge for the steering wheel... ahh such is life

I cant seem to find a CARGO COVER W/ ALL THE CLIPS for a 99' Basic model thats not ALOT of $$. (in OAK/TAN -i think thats the color of the int)

Ive posted some of my elect. stuff in the classifieds to try to get some $$ to get the cargo cover and some seat covers (front at least)

I think a company called Cross Canada has those grills. They have many parts including the decent doors for our truck. The hardest part I had to find was the from input shaft bearing for the tranny in my 82 5 speed. I ended up having to buy it from Toyota. How does $224 for one bearing sound. And a few months after that I found out Marlin Crawler sells complete rebuild kits for $260. Went that route the second time round. I'm to the 3rd time now and I'm going diesel.

I have a grill but it came off an 83. Will this work? It is in really nice condition.

So long as they are the original part of the truck, or even a replacement or repair...

In the end, the difference between the two will always vary from person to person, even among truck enthusiasts and professionals within the repair or performance parts industry.

I may be buying a 2nd '81 4x4 cheap to park in my dad's barn just to be able to pull spare parts from...it is basically complete but runs like crap. I had been bugging my friend for 2 years, I think he is about to succumb to the pressure.
