it looks like a new 22r, like an 86-89, not sure what year they stopped the 22r, its the same motor just a slightly different head

Westjohns yota they made the 22r up to 88 84 was the 22re debut I could b off a lil but dnt think so. There is the(pre-84) 22R 79-83 in 84(post-84)22RE they reworked the block decked it 1/4 inch so timing cover is shorter the head was reworked & the AIR portion of the intake was punched out. There is a big difference but mostly everything will interchange but timing cover.

Spcnemo- ur valve cover is a 85-95 so it's a lil hard to tell but later model engine has more power n better mileage less drag on motor due to redesigned timing chain THAT'S THE POSITIVE SIDE the down side due to the new timing chain in 84 Toyota switched from duel timing chain & metal guides to single chain & plastic in the typical cause & effect the chain would stretch & rub on plastic guides tear them up & start rubbing on the timing cover & wear a hole in the cover by the water pump & drain ur coolant in to ur bottom end & overheat ur motor & contaminate ur bottom end u start knocking or blow the head or BOTH jus another reminder why u should always change ur timing components every 100k or less

Sorry for not updating anyone on this truck, but its been sitting in storage for the last four years. I'm going to start cleaning the exterior, engine compartment and interior and will post a few pictures over the next few days.
